Send a card to a friend day

National “send a card to a friend” day falls each year on February 7. The day is intended to encourage us all to celebrate the people in our lives. Mailing a simple greetings card is a wonderful way to let a friend know they are in your thoughts.

The average American household sends 30 greetings cards during the course of a typical year. The practice is widespread: nine out of ten households send at least one greeting card a year.

National Send a Card to a Friend Day encourages us to take the opportunity to send at least one extra card this year. It’s an inexpensive way to let someone know they matter to you.

To really get into the spirit of the day, we encourage you to send a paper card through the postal service. This way, your chosen friend – or friends – will have the enjoyment of receiving a handwritten card through the mail.

If you have time, why not make the greetings card yourself? All you need is some thick paper stock (120gsm or more) or some card stock – and a little creativity!

If you’re lacking creative inspiration, you can find and print off greetings card templates online. The image editing app Canva offers a range of card templates on its website. And you can find additional greetings card templates on the Adobe Express website.

If you’d like to get a little more hands-on, why not decorate your own card? Simple ideas to try including:

  • Choose a quote about friendship or something that matters to you both and write it out on the front of your card in striking calligraphy.
  • Print out photos of special moments and make a collage of pictures of the two of you together.
  • If you aren’t confident drawing, use ink stamps and colored inks to decorate the front of your card.

Remember, you can send cards to more than one friend. Perhaps it’s someone you’ve lost touch with lately? Or someone who only usually receives a card from you at Christmas? Someone you usually stay in touch with on social media? Or maybe it’s someone you see every day who you want to let know they are important to you?
